Autoharp lesson with old hymn
"Down At the Cross"

"Down at the Cross" was the first video we made back in 2010 to begin an on-line video collection of hymns played on the autoharp. If you're not interested in the autoharp "lesson," feel free to skip over to where the singing begins and join in with whatever instrument you play. (Also, please be forgiving about the off-key singing!)

The lyrics to this hymn were written by Elisha A. Hoffman and published in 1878. Music was written by J. H. Stockton - not sure what year, as Stockton died in 1877. If you can clear up this apparent confusion, let me know.

Hoffman wrote over 2,000 hymns, including such standards as "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms," and "Are You Washed in the Blood?"
