Hi Nathan,

I only discovered your website recently. I’m currently having piano lessons and have discovered all my favourite hymns that I can play at ease and enjoy. I showed them to my piano teacher and she said they are fantastic.

Thank you SO much for giving many hymns in "simpler keys" than I could find in standard hymnals. I have been learning to play recorder so I can read standard music and learn melodies correctly. In hymnals many songs had multiple flats or sharps but you got them down to no more than two sharps. I have enjoyed your playable hymns infinitely. I learned to play chords in many keys to accompany my singing with a tenor ukulele strung in low G. The recorder has helped me learn the melodies and standard music notation, while the ukulele is great for accompaniment. What a blessing your site has been! Many thanks!

Thanks for the letter, Paul.  That's exactly what the site was created for and it's a blessing and encouragement to hear that folk like you are using it, making music, and playing hymns.

I am 73. I am also partially deaf, and have never had any musical talent - but I have always wanted to play the guitar and mandolin.

Thanks to your TABS, I have learned to play both (pretty good for a beginner, if I might add), and that includes picking and chords.

Thank you so much! You will never know how many people you have helped fulfil their lifelong dreams.

I pray God's blessings on you for this.

Thank you for this site, I love it and it has helped me as I am learning to play the guitar.  I was wondering if you could add the song "Tell It Again."  Written around 1876 by Mary B. Slade.   My mom use to play the guitar and sing that song when I was growing up.  It is based on a true story and she always explained the story to me. The salvation story...  Thank you

Hi, I just got my mandolin two weeks ago for the sole purpose of playing gospel hymns in our small home church worship services. So went looking on line and found your site. What a blessing!! I'm learning to play with the tab and my first hymn I picked to learn was "All The Way My Savior Leads Me." It's great. I do have a request though, for the hymn "I Love Thee" by Ingall's Christian Harmony, 1805. The first stanza starts, I love Thee, I love Thee, I love Thee, my Lord; thanks again,

What a blessing you've been for us.

A group of inmates playing gospel music on guitar were asking me to get 7 gospel songs with tabs and lyrics for them. Not one of them appeared on your list. The most famous of them was "How Great Thou Art". What's UP?

Judy B.

Judy,
Thanks for asking. "What's up?" is that royalties must be paid on any song that is currently under copyright each time it is used. The hymns on the Music Folk website are provided free of charge because they are in the public domain, copyright expired, written before 1924. "How Great Thou Art" and other copyrighted hymns are readily available for purchase from sites providing sheet music.  -Nathan Sarvis

Sorry to trouble you. But I don’t understand how to read the
Bracketed tabs,
e.g. (5) in the tabs for the songs on the ukulele. Do I just play the tab in the brackets just like if they weren’t in
brackets?  Don’t think so, but not sure how to read tabs within the brackets, pls advise, thank you so much.

Pauline W.

Singapore

Pauline,
Thanks for writing and it's no trouble at all. I frequently get this question. The number in parenthesis in tab is used for the second of two notes that are tied in the original music. This usually means that the first note is held for the length of two notes.  If playing an instrument that can sustain (such as a violin) the notes are held. When playing a ukulele, you'll probably just play the first note and consider the second as a rest. Sometimes this indicates that some of the verses of the song have two words; some have one. In this case, you decide if want to play one note or both.

Hope this helps. --Nathan Sarvis

Thank you Nathan. Yup this helped.
Thank you also for this site where I find so much joy learning to play the ukulele. God bless.
Blessings,
Pauline

I have been playing accordion for a couple of years with my focus on the older hymns. Even though accordion is not listed with the folk instruments, this site is going to help me improve my skills by playing along with "virtual others" and is such a good fit for my goals.

October 2, 2018

We just wanted to thank you again for providing these tabs for hymns.  I had a couple of questions-We don't know if you can get "O Happy Day" but would be happy if you can.  I can't seem to get to "Redeemed, How I Love To Proclaim It"??  What does it mean when there is a note in parentheses within the measure?  Thanks again and God Bless You.

Christy B.

Lewisburg, West Virginia

Thanks for writing! Music and tab for "O Happy Day" are now on the site. The link for "Redeemed, How I Love to Proclaim It" was broken. It has now been fixed. Thanks for pointing out that it wasn't working.

The note in parenthesis in tablature appears when there is a tied note in the music. This generally happens when some verses of the song have one syllable and some have two, on the same note. You can either hold the note or play it twice - your choice.  Blessings.  --Nathan Sarvis

I see "No, Not One" in the sheet music section but not in the guitar tab section...maybe i missed it?

Walt F.

Manchester, Maryland

Thanks for writing. No, you didn't miss it; it wasn't there.  The reason is that when I first started the site, I only posted the sheet  music and videos, no tabs; A year or two later, seeing the need, I acquired the necessary software and began adding tabs. I now include tabs whenever I post a new hymn, and add tab for the older ones whenever someone lets me know there's one missing. Tab for guitar and other instruments for "No Not One!" have now been added.  --Nathan Sarvis

I happened to come across your site this evening.  Just wanted to say this site is GREAT!  I have 3 boys learning to play the mandolin and the guitar (and fiddle).  I'm attempting to learn along with them.   We have only been playing a little under a year but are having so much fun.  We prefer the boys to play gospel songs and with this site there are so many options now!  Thank you soo much for offering these free of charge!  We are so excited to get started!!!  Any chance you could do I'll Fly Away?  :)

Thanks for writing. So glad you found our site. We only provide music for songs in the public domain (copyright expired, written before 1923). Re: "Yes, I Know" I found this old Hymnal called "Soul Stirring Songs and Hymns" Published by the Sword of the Lord 1972. I paged through the old songs that I remembered and sang them to my family; some, I played on the piano. I came to page 267, hmmm, I don't remember THIS one. I loved the words. I looked up the story behind the hymn and understood why Anna Waterman wrote this song in 1920. She had suffered for many years because her husband was an alcoholic. She remained a Christian example and always prayed for his salvation. One day he asked her to show him how to get saved through Jesus Christ. He asked HIM to save him and help him clean up his life, which HE did. Before this video, I had never heard it at all. I especially liked it with the "echo" as you call it, because that's how the lyrics are written in the hymnal. Thank you so much for posting this video!

I am just starting out on the banjo, and am loving it. I found your tabs for the banjo. I'm learning "Amazing Grace." There are two places where the notes look like this (0). What does that mean, I can't find any reference to it on the website thanks.

Willie T.

Picayune, MS

The zero in parenthesis (0) in tab is used for the second of two notes that are tied in the original music. This usually (as in "Amazing Grace.") means that the first note is held for the length of two notes.  If playing an instrument that can sustain (such as a violin) the notes are held. When playing a banjo, you'll probably just play the first note and consider the second [the (0)] as a rest. Sometimes the (0) indicates that some of the verses of the song have two words; some have one. In this case, you decide if want to play one note or both. --Nathan Sarvis

Is there a physical address when I can send a donation for the wonderful service you are providing? Our little group will sing and play at Senior's Homes much to their enjoyment and many remember the "older" gospel and hymns.

Would you have the mandolin tabs for "Mothers of Salem" aka "Suffer Little Children to Come Unto me"? It was written pre-1900, but is a song I remember well from Sunday School and I think our audience of shut-ins will remember it as well.

Question.... Is there a book that can be purchased with these songs in it? Also do you have a list of Easter songs.

Lou M.

Thanks for writing. I don't have a book available at this time. However, you are free to print out any or all of the songs and make your own book. Some folks put them in a three ring binder, others have taken them to a copy store and had them spiral bound to make their own books.

My question... What program do you use to build the tabs? I've written a lot of music and would like to experiment with making my own tabs.  Thanks for the info, and again for all your hard work!

Robert H.

Merrimac, Massachussetts

Robert, thanks for the comments. I use a program called "Music Software." I purchased it several years ago from Braeburn Software. The company has since been sold and the software is now available here: https://www.lauriso.com/ I assume it's the same program, just newer. It's a very easy program to use. Once you plug in the notes, you can easily turn it into tab for several different instruments. --Nathan Sarvis, Denton County, Texas

The selections of songs that you have provided are wonderful. They take me back to my childhood. The only problem is you have chosen to do the first verse and chorus. Is it possible to have the whole song written out with chords and tab. I would be very interested in this combination.

Gord S.

Kamloops, BC, Canada

Thanks for writing. On the "Sheet Music" tab, you will find every song with chords and all the verses. The tab pages are for instrumental playing with only one verse to help the musician keep his place. All the verses will not usually fit on the page with tab. If you are using the tab and want to have all the verses as well, I suggest you print out both the sheet music page and the tab page. That way you can use the tab for instrumental breaks and use the sheet music page to sing all the verses. --Nathan Sarvis

Sarah N.

Rushville, Indiana

Sarah, I've had this site for three and a half years; it's visited by over 10,000 people a month, and this is the first time I've ever been asked that question.

Obviously we're not in this for the money, so don't feel obligated. However, as we are told in Acts. 30:35 to "remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive," I wouldn't want to deny someone more blessings by refusing a gift. And it does cost several hundred dollars a year to keep the site up (not to mention the hundreds of hours of work), so, I've added a "Donate" button to the website sheet music and tab pages where those so inclined can click and donate by PayPal. --Nathan

Thank you so much for all the sheet music and songs you provide for the world. They have been a blessing to me. I play the autoharp and use this music for my own enjoyment. When I am playing, before I know it, I am thanking God for his blessings and for you. Keep up His work!

Hey, thanks SO much for making these songsheets available for download!  I'm the music/worship  leader at a small, just-beginning church, so our budget is very low.  I live on my retirement pension, so my income is pretty low, too, but I feel like it really helps my little church in some way if I can absorb the cost of finding and printing music for our worship team.  I play both guitar and piano (not at the same time...lol!) for various parts of our services.  Discovering  your site is like finding a gold mine!  These song sheets will not only help me as leader of our worship team, but also as I play piano for the offertory and the Lord's Supper...thank you, thank you, thank you!!  May the Lord bless you as you serve Him.

I play mandolin and I love the tabs for these hymns. My question is, when I see a note in parentheses what does it mean?

Thomas U.

Cumberland, Virginia

When the tab has a note in parentheses, it means the note is tied to the previous note. You can either play either play both notes or just hold the first for the length of both notes (for instance, sustain it by using tremolo on the mandolin).  Sometimes this is done when the note is held for a time that can't be indicated by one note; other times it indicates the lyrics have two syllables in one of the verses and only one in another. In "The Old Rugged Cross," for instance, the third line of the first verse begins "For a" the next two verses begin "To" and the last verse "Where His," so you're singing one or two notes depending on the verse.

So generally, I would just hold the note, but you can do whichever sounds best to you. --Nathan

What a wonderful blessing!  I came across this site accidentally and it is so natural and pleasant.  It brought smiles to my face and contentment in my heart.  You all are doing a wonderful ministry.  God bless and keep it up.  I have learnt some new hymns and playing the piano with the chords you provided.  This is excellent.  I cannot thank you enough.

I enjoyed playing along with you on the Autoharp.  I love the hymms and I do folk music in my community too.  There are not very many who play autoharp around here so please keep it up.  I did go to CAG (California Autoharp Gathering) last March... nice to know I'm not alone.

I seriously cannot thank you enough for this site.  I took piano lessons for a short while about 15 years ago;  her style of teaching was Octave-Chord-Chord.  Unfortunately my sweet teacher passed away unexpectedly, and I couldn't find anybody else that taught her style of playing.  So I've been studying and playing on my own ever since. Recently I became the piano player at church, panic set in, I had only been the back-up and played maybe once every couple of months.  Now I play every Sunday Morning/Night and Choir Practice.  My church loves the old hymnals, but I just have such a problem still with shape notes. I just want to thank you a hundred times over for your easy to read sheet music that I can actually play.  My choir director is very happy also =}

Hi.  I just wanted to thank you for your website.  I recently started playing the autoharp, and I really enjoy playing your hymns.  I am starting a "Gospel Sing and Jam" session at a local luthier shop (he lets people jam in his basement) and I am planning on using your songs for that jam session.

Today I brought my autoharp to my mother's nursing home and sang and played some of the hymns from your website.  She can't communicate very well since her stroke, but she enjoys listening to music and sometimes sings along a bit.  Then I heard someone in the next room ask, "What channel is that on?"  She thought my singing was on TV and she wanted to tune it in too!  So she had the nurse open the doors to both bathrooms so she could hear me sing.  Pretty soon she started giving requests.  "Do you know the altar call?"  I was confused at first, and then I said, "Do you mean 'Just as I am'?"  She and her roommate really enjoyed the music.  Sometime soon I plan to go there and sing some of the hymns with my autoharp for all the residents.

Thanks again for making this great music available - and especially for arranging some of them especially for the autoharp.

Sorry, but I can only legally post music that is in the public domain. In the U.S., that means written before 1923. For some reason, the copyright owners of more modern songs tend to expect payment every time their songs are used. Go figure! Hello,
Very much enjoying hearing the hymns, played as they were intended to be played- - not so "jazzed up" the melody is almost completely lost. Request: More, more, more of the violin !! WOW ! The Lead Me Gently Home is fantastic. I cannot wait until I get our piano moved ... hearing that violin has prompted me to find someone with whom to do duets and trios. Thanks to all for sharing their time and energy in your endeavor. More, more, more violin !!

Just wanted to thank you so much for this site that I just discovered today. I began taking banjo lessons 3 months ago, and what I really desire most is to learn to play hymns on the banjo. But banjo tablature for hymns is hard to come by, and when I do find it, the arrangement is way over my head at this stage. The tab here is pure and simple. Banjo is a very hard instrument to learn (at least to me) so I spent an hour of pure joy taking a break from learning things like Foggy Mountain breakdown and simply enjoying these simple versions of hymns I have loved forever. Thank you.

I stumbled on to our website - Praise God! It gave me the encouragement I needed....

My momma purchased an autoharp over 40 years ago. She never played it much but always enjoyed its music. When she was put in a nursing home because of alzheimer, I wanted to do something for her, something she could enjoy and help calm her fears. So, I dug out that old harp and learned to play (thanks to your website). I would go weekly to the nursing home to play for her and she loved it so much. Towards the end of her life, she was bedfast and didn't know anyone, but I know she could hear the music when I played because she would begin to smile. 18 months ago, mamma went home to be with the Lord and I know she's still listening to me play.

I have learned so much from your site and I have since bought a new autoharp. I don't play well (yet) but I keep on strummin' away! Thank you & God Bless you all!

Glad to hear you're making good use of our website! Thanks for writing. I've added "There is Power in the Blood;" however, I can only post music for songs in the public domain - copyrighted 1923 or before. "How Great Thou Art," the one I get the most requests for, is copyrighted in 1955; "When He Was On the Cross," 1985, so I won't be able post them. However, you can find guitar chords for both of them by doing a google search. --Nathan

I was so excited to see your site. My parents moved into a retirement community and had to have an auction because they were downsizing. I bought my Mother's old autoharp, and I want to learn to play. I have picked up a little bit already from playing some of the hymns on your site. Mine is a 15 key autoharp. I was wondering what I should do when a song has a key which I do not have. For instance, Amazing Grace has an Em, and I do not have that key. Thanks for your help.
Kathy
Elida, Ohio

Good to hear from you, Kathy. If you don't have a particular chord, you can usually either stay on the previous, or go to the following chord - just see which one sounds best. On "Amazing Grace," since the note for the Em chord is G, you should go to the C chord that follows. - Nathan

Hello from Canada!
I found your site by googling a song for church that wasn't in the hymnal. What a blessing to have been able to find you! My children and I have enjoyed hearing your music . The simple sheet music is so helpful, as some of us play more by ear than notes. I wish I could spend a Sunday afternoon singing with you all and learning how to play another instrument. The favorite for me so far would have to be "I Must Tell Jesus." My eldest son and I just had a wonderful evening playing and singing together while he learned to use the new bass guitar. Now, after listening to and watching your videos, I think the next new instrument in our home will be either a harmonica or autoharp. Or maybe a banjo... or mandolin?
Thank you!

Just wanted to say "Thank You" for this site. It has all the songs I need to get me going on my new uke. I have several saved to my ipad and they are great! Within minutes I was picking out "Just as I Am". I love the tabs as well as chords. Very professional. I appreciate your hard work; it's been a blessing to me.

I love this site, and the sheet music is so plain to see with my vision problems. Do you have the sheet music to "Palms of Victory" and that song I am not sure of the name but it's something like this "Singing,Singing, Shouting"? I think the Chuck Wagon gang used to sing that one.
Again many thanks I am a piano player not great at it but this site is so helpful to anyone especially who is seeking out the old hymns.
Thanks
Edith
Franklin, North Carolina

The sheet music for "Palms of Victory" is now on our website. How about a video of your playing? Not sure what the other song is. If you can remember any of the lyrics to it, I might be able to find it. --Nathan

Thanks Nathan, you're a life saver. So glad "Palms of Victory" can be played in the key of G. Would love to send you a video of my playing it but it's hard to do that right now I live in rural area and guess what? still on dial-up which takes forever to do any little thing. But will send you a clip we suppose to have the high-speed in Sept. hopefully.

Thanks so much there's a site like yours, I have improved my playing so much, you make it so easy since I play by ear, and the print-outs of the song makes me stay on track, I love the chords printed above like that.

I still cannot think of the name of that other song but I know it goes something like I'm keep on shouting, shouting, singing by the Chuck Wagon gang. One more question do you know why the Chuck Wagon gang never had a piano player or did they just like guitar better?
Edith

Look forward to the video! Don't know the answer to the piano question. They started out as a family band (father, son & two daughters); perhaps none of them could play piano? [Readers, do you know?]

Could "Heaven's Jubilee" be the Chuck Wagon Gang song you're looking for? --Nathan

Thanks Nathan. These are hymns I thought I'd never find since I hadn't heard them since childhood, Some of the older folks is just so grateful to hear these older hymns again. Music can get through to people so much. I am not a pro by any means, but when someone compliments me and wants to hear that song again like "Palms of Victory" it makes all the hours of practicing over and over again worthwhile. Like I said before I don't read music, all I have to have is just the chords above the songs to keep me on track. Thanks for sharing. Edith

Thank you so much. I would like to see HOLY HOLY HOLY. God Bless your work.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've added "Holy, Holy, Holy" to our sheet music and tab pages.--Nathan

Just a note of appreciation for the work you've put into this wonderful site that I stumbled onto yesterday! Actually, I play piano more than guitar, and while I have most of the songs listed, I've printed each of them, and stored in a sheet protected binder for learning purposes... as it's great to have the simple notation in lead sheet form with chords & lyrics of these wonderful old hymns...Since what I do is take the basic song and embroider my own arrangement.... these very clear and easy to read pdfs are very helpful....especially with the chords added! Only disappointment was that Will The Circle Be Unbroken had only the chorus! It would be good to have the entire song in my new "book" to work on.:) I'll definitely be checking back often. Thank you again from a grateful grandma piano student!

Thanks! Great to hear that you're getting some use out of the music. We'd love to hear what you're doing with the hymns. How about a video of your playing? We feature videos of those using the site on the
"You Do It!" page. Don't have a pianist on there yet!

The sheet music pdf of "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" includes all the verses. It has the chorus first, with the verses beneath, since the verses and chorus are the same melody. --Nathan

Hi,
Great to find you. Could you give me tabs for "When I Survey," "Redeemed, How I Love to proclaim It," and "Blessed Assurance," please? Love playing the mandolin here in Northern Ireland and would love to play Christian blue grass if you know anyone.

GOLDEN CITY
(to the tune of "Red River Valley")
Marshall W. Taylor,
A Collection of Revival Hymns and Plantation Melodies (1882), pp 50-51
Soon we'll see the golden city,
Soon we'll hear the angels sing,
And the harps attuned by seraphs
Loud will make the heavens ring.

Chorus:
We will walk through the streets of the city,
With the friends who've gone on before,
We shall sit by the banks of the river,
We will meet to part no more.

Blessed mansion, home of angels,
With its streets all paved with gold,
Pearly gates and living fountains,
And her pleasures ne'er grow old.

Glorious sunshine, ever shining,
Trees of life in grandeur stand,
Clouds of love with silver lining,
In that happy, heavenly land.

Friends and kindred who have loved us,
Hearts that often beat as one,
They have joined that glorious number,
Now they shout around the throne.

Soon we'll cross the rapid river,
Soon we'll near our heavenly home,
Soon we'll hear the hearty welcome:
Come, ye blessed children, come.

Let us bear the yoke of Jesus,
Fierce and long will be the war,
But his love will ever keep us
Till the storm of life is o'er.

That's a good one I hadn't heard before. One of the aims of this site is to help preserve these great old songs. It's been said that every hymn is just one generation from extinction. If this generation doesn't learn them, they'll be gone. Thanks for keeping this one alive!
-Nathan

Since I recently was given an Autoharp I started to surf the web for instructions and came across your web-site.

I really enjoy it. The only problem I have is that I can't seem to play the autoharp upright. I play it on my lap.

Thank you for posting the videos. I am enjoying this site.

Sincerely,
Katie
Mount Solon, VA

Unless you're playing for a large audience, I'm not aware of any disadvantage to lap playing. The autoharp was originally played on a table or lap and many people still play that way. The upright playing style was developed (perhaps by Maybelle Carter) to play on stage, so one can be seen by the audience, move around, and get close to a microphone.
Thanks for visiting the site. Glad you're enjoying it- Nathan

I learned the song "Precious Jewels" from my mother in Canada MANY years ago!

I heard the Langely ukulele ensemble play two inspiring pieces, "Come Follow the Star" and "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desire." I am supporting a Chaplain in AFGHANISTAN, @ FOB Farah, "700" troops there. Now he is a guitar player and so is his assistant. I belong to San Jose, CA Ukulele club, so my interest UKE! I would love to get the chords/lyrics for these two songs. My intention is to send a ukulele to them for the Chapel music, on Christmas. Troop supporters have sent guitars and they stand in the Chapel for any Troop to stay awhile and feel free to play. So, with this in mind, it would be an introduction to the UKE, and hopefully some-one can jump in and play these songs along with the Chaplain's guitar and I believe a banjo too! This is music for Christmas and the intention to have a party after. The music gathers in the soldiers and the Chapel is filled on Sunday! I think how wonderful all this is! so, if you can help me out, it would be really great! I am not sure if the Chaplain needs the Guitar chords too. I can put you in touch directly him. He would welcome your input!
Thank you,
Gwen
California

Sounds like you're doing a great work there! "Come Follow the Star" is too new to be in public domain, so I can't post it, and I don't have tab for "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" yet, but I found a version here. It looks complicated to me, but I'm not really a uke player. Maybe one of our readers has a version you can share?

Please share this site with your contacts in Afghanistan, as that is exactly the sort of thing we want to be a part of.Thanks! -Nathan

Thanks for the lesson. I just started back up with the autoharp that I used 5 years ago for children's ministries. I was self taught and mostly stayed to C-F-G songs. I would love to work on expanding my chords. In "My Fathers World" I tried the G A7 and D, but on my 15 button auto harp the G is too far a reach for my fingers. Hmmm? How about Great is thy Faithfulness. See you on youtube.
God Bless,
Shellie

Thanks for writing. I think most autoharpers find the chord arrangement on the 15 bar harps annoyingly inconvenient. It is possible to rearrange the bars, but it's more difficult on the 15 bar models than the 21 bar. Try playing it in a key that's easier to reach on your harp. Or put a 21-chord on your Christmas wish list!
I just discovered that "Great is Thy Faithfulness" was copyrighted in 1923, so it won't come into public domain until 2019! I'll put it up then. :)
--Nathan

I really enjoy having your music available. Would you have an arrangement of a 'Wear A Crown' to play on the autoharp? Any key would be fine.

WOW, what a wonderful site....I found you tonight when I was trying to remember a song that one of the dear ladies mentioned at Church in the Hospital that I went to today...we had some old choruses and "Brighten the Corner" came up, and I could only remember the last line and tune of the chorus...now thanks to you I can sing it for them next time. Love the autoharp, the banjo, mandolin and guitar....please keep up finding and singing these beautiful old hymns and choruses...

Many thanks.

I am looking for sheet music for the gospel tune Green Pastures (Going Up Home). I will appreciate any help you can give me.
Thanks!
Phyllis
U.S.A.

"Green Pastures" was written in 1963, so is still under copyright. I try to stay legal by posting only songs that are in the public domain, which means they have to be at least 75 years old. However, there are sites on the web that post the lyrics and chords for more recent songs Click Here for one that has "Green Pastures." - Nathan

Love your clawhammer banjo. Could you do a video teaching how to play "Lily of the valley" on just the banjo. I would like to learn it so I can play it in a senor retirement home when we visit.
Clayton
Cedar Park, Texas

Thanks! I'll try to get a video up soon. Until then, here's a banjo tab you can use to get a good idea what I'm playing. The tab just has the melody notes, not the thumb on the 5th string, but if you're already doing some clawhammer you should be able to add that. Hope this helps! - Nathan

. . . . .

Hi. how are you? I love the way you teach gospel or hymns on the autoharp. Are you planning on making a teachable book that will teach people like me how to play church songs on the autoharp? Can you please email me the chords to play hymns on my autoharp,I would greatly appreciate it, if you can email me the answer to my question please. Thanks so much and may JESUS bless you at all time.
Mario
Brooklyn, NY

Thanks, Mario. If you'll click on the "Sheet Music" link at the side of the page, you'll find the hymns and church songs I would put in a book if I decide to do it. The chords are included, exactly the way I play them, so you can practice until they start sounding the way you think they should. Between watching the videos and following along on the sheet music, you'll be ready to play in church before you know it! - Nathan

. . . . .

I REALLY like all the videos and sheet music you have put up for everyone here at your website.
I am a very amateur autoharp player, and one thing that I have not gotten the hang of is proper strum patterns. I have been currently been basically "pinching" the melody notes/chords and that works to an extent, but I am sure that proper strumming would work so much better, especially for accompaniment.
Would you consider putting up some "how to" videos for the various strum patterns. I have seen you do this at the start of some of your videos, and really like it. Maybe start out showing the strum slowly then gradually speed up to a normal speed.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and for making such a great site.
Sincerely,
Dave in Ivor, VA

Good idea, Dave. I'll get on it. Also, for you other autoharpers out there, How about helping out. Make a video of some of your basic strums, picking patterns, etc., and send it to us (The easiest way is to post it on YouTube and send us an "Embed" link.) We'll post it here. - Nathan

. . . . .

I really enjoyed your play along songs for the autoharp. I am just learning and found the chord showing wonderful, I really appreciate it. The songs are too fast 4 me but maybe someday I can play along. I like that you give instructions on strumming with it. I do have a question that I hope you can answer, as I have spent lots of time looking for autoharp music to play for kids sing alongs. Does autoharp music follow the chords as used in guitar, would the music be interchangeable? Thanks in advance for taking time to answer this question.
May the Lord bless you.
Carolyn, USA
Yes, the chords listed are for any instrument - guitar, autoharp, banjo, ukulele, etc. However, when you play melody on autoharp, you usually have to add additional chords to get all the notes. You'll notice that many of the songs on this site have autoharp melody chords listed beneath the staff. These are not used when playing for singing - only when playing an autoharp instrumental. - Nathan

. . . . .

Love your website. My kind of music. I love to play my autoharp along with your videos. Is there any way that you can put the chords & words on the sheet music site to Anchored in Love?
Thank you.
Jan
Thanks. I've hope to have the music up soon, but for now have sent you a copy of lyrics and chords as we play it. - Nathan
